The gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community is the only community worldwide that does not learn its history at home, in public schools or in religious institutions. The GLBT History Museum of Central Florida is designed to teach GLBT local heritage, provide role models for GLBT youth, build community, and highlight the extraordinary local and national contributions of the GLBT community of Central Florida, including recognizing the start of the organized gay and lesbian civil rights movement in Central Florida. As part of RICHES, the project aims to collect and preserve the GLBT history of Central Florida and to provide multiple means to educate members of the greater Orlando area, including the University of Central Florida and local community college students, about the GLBT community's past and its impact on Central Florida.
