Surfing Florida: A Photographic History is a project based out of Florida Atlantic University that combines a museum exhibit, a book project and a multi-media program to investigate the rich history of surfing and surf culture in Florida. Surfing has played a key role in the evolution of Florida's culture and its national image in the twentieth century and Florida has, in turn, exerted a strong influence on surfing at a national and international level. Surfing Florida will investigate the more than seventy years of surf history in the state through the use of images and oral histories. The History Department at the University of Central Florida is partnering with Florida Atlantic University to provide valuable oral history resources to aid in the collection of surfing stories in Central Florida, accounts which have never been gathered in any systematic way.
