An oral history of Alzo Reddick. The interview was conducted by Sarah Boye at the Grand Avenue Neighborhood Center in Orlando, Florida, on May 31, 2025. Some of the topics covered include growing up on Jackson Street in Parramore, early education, experiences with segregation, and participating in scouts, sports, and student leadership, his father’s work, activism, and how it shaped his leadership views, memories of his neighborhood growing up, businesses and professional leaders in Parramore during his youth, common jobs and challenges for Black residents in Parramore, changes in local businesses and entrepreneurship over time, defining Parramore’s boundaries based on his childhood experiences, community challenges including racism and lack of opportunity, work to preserve the Wells’ Built Hotel and bring FAMU Law School to Orlando, passing single-member district legislation to expand Black political representation, women leaders in Parramore’s history who deserve more recognition, Parramore’s legacy as a community that produces leaders and achievers, and his final reflections on his life, community, and the importance of telling the truth.
