An oral history interview with Robert Stuart. The interview was conducted by Eric Thompson at the Grand Avenue Neighborhood Center in Orlando, Florida, on April 28, 2025. Some of the topics covered include growing up in College Park, family history, and his father’s business and community involvement, memories of Parramore from childhood and providing services to churches, businesses in Parramore including dry cleaning, grocery, and industrial work, labor in Parramore and his father hiring Black salesmen in the 1960s, his education journey through Princeton Elementary, Edgewater High, and University of Florida, the Christian Service Center and providing services in Parramore, experiences with school integration and how it shaped his perspective, teachers and mentors who influenced him growing up, defining Parramore’s boundaries and the Christian Service Center’s location, homeownership challenges in Parramore and his father’s role in promoting it, working with Parramore pastors and starting Vision Orlando to build community trust, what community means to him and how people identify with Parramore, how Parramore has changed over time including property speculation and development, programs supporting Parramore residents including down payment assistance, community fragmentation and the challenge of civic engagement, how people outside Parramore can support the neighborhood and value its history, and his final reflections on Parramore’s significance and preserving its legacy
