An oral history interview with Harry H. Bryant. The interview was conducted by Riley O’Neill at the Callahan Neighborhood Center in Orlando, Florida, on March 8, 2025. Some of the topics covered include growing up in Callahan, family history, and education journey, his family’s move to Orlando, labor work, and community life in Callahan, his mother’s work as a cook and family memories, siblings, family dynamics, and their influence on his life, Callahan Elementary School memories and preserving its legacy, school experiences, favorite teachers, and discovering music, learning piano, performing in bands, and becoming a classical pianist, his career journey from teaching music to business analyst work, businesses in Parramore, local stores, and community resources, labor and common occupations in Parramore’s past, changes in business and entrepreneurship over time, defining Parramore’s boundaries and neighborhood identity, community challenges in the 1980s including the crack epidemic, the role of the Callahan Neighborhood Association and women’s leadership, his return to Callahan, volunteering, and second-generation involvement, how Parramore and Callahan have changed and present-day challenges, how residents can support the community and questions about engagement models, and his reflections on Parramore’s legacy and preserving its history.
