An oral history interview with Dr. Martha Walton Williams-Glenn. The interview was conducted by Eric Thompson at the Grand Avenue Neighborhood Center in Orlando, Florida, on May 31, 2025. Some of the topics covered include growing up in Parramore, family history, and attending Callahan Elementary, family challenges, Jones High School experiences, and her education journey, school integration and her path through college, graduate school, and career, Black-owned businesses in Parramore and community leaders, the Black Business Bureau and professional figures in the neighborhood, common occupations and labor in Parramore, changes in businesses and community due to urban renewal and gentrification, drawing a map of Parramore and describing neighborhood boundaries, community challenges during civil rights and social changes in Parramore, community organizations and women’s clubs supporting residents, what community means to her and reflections on growing up in Parramore, Parramore today, property ownership, and concerns about gentrification, and her closing thoughts and continued connection to the neighborhood.
