An oral history interview of Mary Cottman. The interview was conducted by Adaeze Nwigwe at the Callahan Neighborhood Center on March 8, 2025. Some of the topics covered include growing up on McFall Avenue and her family’s move to Orlando, running rooming houses and renting to seasonal orange pickers, staying connected to the community through her salon and food pantry, changes in Parramore over time and the impact of development, challenges of community involvement and long-term resident engagement, remembering neighbors, businesses, and community leaders from Parramore’s past, her education in Orlando and family ties to Jones High School, participating in choir and becoming the first female football trainer at Jones High, talking about her siblings, children, and family experiences, receiving the Notable Neighbor Award and running the Book of Ruth food pantry, defining Parramore’s boundaries and describing its legacy, and her final thoughts and continued commitment to the neighborhood.
