An oral history interview with Ralph Armstead. The interview was conducted by Sarah Boye at the Grand Avenue Neighborhood Center in Orlando, Florida, on April 25, 2025. Some of the topics covered include growing up in Parramore, early education, and attending Jones High School, family employment and his grandfather’s role as a builder and inspector, siblings, family life, and household experiences, Jones High School academics, sports, and leadership activities, desire to become a lawyer and his legal career, church involvement, family legacy, and community connections, entrepreneurship in Parramore and working local jobs as a youth, labor in Parramore and common occupations in the past, defining Parramore’s boundaries and clarifying myths about Division Street, community challenges including housing, jobs, and gentrification, what community means to him and preserving Parramore’s identity, Parramore’s legacy including education, leadership, and alumni success, and his final reflections on Parramore’s past, present, and structural challenges.
