An oral history interview of Reginald Bernard McGill. The interview was conducted by Eric Thompson at Orlando City Hall on February 10, 2025. Some of the topics covered include growing up in Parramore and his family’s move to Orlando, family business, church involvement, and early leadership, childhood challenges including crime and school integration, teachers who influenced him and early political aspirations, Black-owned businesses and the role of entrepreneurship in Parramore, drawing the map of Parramore and describing its boundaries, community support through churches, schools, and civic groups, women’s leadership in education, health care, and community life, what community means to him and how it shaped his values, changes in Parramore over time and reflections on growth, present-day challenges including gentrification and controlled growth, Linton’s Grocery and its importance as a neighborhood store, food access issues and Parramore as a food desert, development plans for Parramore and balancing community needs, personal experiences with racism and focusing on progress, encouraging civic involvement and volunteer support for Parramore, and Parramore’s legacy and his personal connection to the neighborhood.
