An oral history interview of Rebecca H. Ford. The interview was conducted by Sarah Boye at the Grand Avenue Neighborhood Center on April 21, 2025. Some of the topics covered include growing up in South Carolina and moving to Orlando, Napoleon Ford’s education career and founding the charter school, her work as an educator and experiences with integration, Napoleon Ford’s service as commissioner and focus on education, his community involvement, church leadership, and restoration efforts, her friendship with Daisy Lynum and continuing Ford’s legacy, supporting Arthur “Pappy” Kennedy’s election campaign, Black-owned businesses in Parramore during the 1960s, personal experiences with segregation in Florida, jobs and homeownership in Parramore’s past and present, defining Parramore’s boundaries and explaining Division Avenue, community challenges including housing and job discrimination, local organizations and support systems, notable figures and women’s roles in the community, how Parramore has changed over time, current challenges and available community programs, Parramore’s legacy and what it means to her, and her final thoughts on leadership and supporting the community.
