Items include photographs, newspaper articles, pamphlets and brochures, report cards, oral history recordings, and various other types of media. Some of our largest collections include:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/16\"><strong>Sanford Collection<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThe Sanford Collection features a number of subcollections of photographs, oral history recordings, and other items\u00a0centered\u00a0on various buildings, people, and subjects in Sanford. The collection also includes several\u00a0subcollections:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka\/collections\/show\/65\">Churches of Sanford Collection<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/131\">Creative Sanford, Inc. Chase &amp; Company was established by brothers Joshua Coffin Chase and Sydney Octavius Chase\u00a0in 1884. The company was known mainly for its agricultural interests and maintained a series of citrus groves throughout Central Florida. The company was based out of Sanford and became one of the city&#8217;s largest employers into the early 20th century. This collection also has several subcollections: <a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/90\">Celery Collection<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/93\">Citrus Collection<\/a>\u00a0(with subcollections \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/91\">Belair Grove Collection<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/100\">Florida Citrus Exchange Collection<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/88\">Isleworth Grove Collection<\/a>), and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/86\">Sanford Collection<\/a>\u00a0(with subcollections:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/94\">Holy Cross Episcopal Church Collection<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/87\">Sanford Country Club and Golf Course Collection<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/31\">Student Museum and UCF Public History Center Collection<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThe Student Museum and UCF Public History Center Collection encompasses photographs, payroll reports, certificates, report cards, yearbooks, oral history recordings, student work, newspaper articles, programs, letters, and other school documents related to the\u00a0history of the schools in Seminole County, the Sanford community through the years, and the history of teaching and learning.\u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scps.k12.fl.us\/studentmuseum\/Home.aspx\">Student Museum and Center for the Social Studies<\/a> has collaborated with the University of Central Florida and established the <a href=\"http:\/\/publichistorycenter.cah.ucf.edu\/\">UCF Public History Center<\/a>\u00a0(PHC) with the goal of promoting access to history through ground-breaking research connecting local to global, providing cutting-edge hands-on educational programs for students and visitors, and engaging the community in contributing to and learning from history. This digital collection consists of two subcollections:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/32\">General Photographic Collection<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/73\">Seminole County Public Schools Collection<\/a>. UCF graduate student David Morton curated much of the General Photographic Collection and designed a digital exhibit titled <a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/exhibits\/show\/origins_of_the_celery_city\">Origins of Celery City (1877-1913)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/102\"><strong>Thomas Cook Collection<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThis collection consists of photographs, postcards, brochures, road maps, booklets, school newspapers, and other documents\u00a0donated by Thomas Cook, a local photographer. The collection mostly features\u00a0artifacts centered around Downtown Orlando, but also includes items related to Cypress Gardens, Lake Wales, Longwood, Silver Springs, the Space Coast, Weeki Wachee, and Winter Park.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/140\">Central Florida Music History Collection<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThis collection features audio recordings, short documentaries, photographs, ticket stubs, and newspaper articles\u00a0related to the history of music in Central Florida.\u00a0Central Florida\u2019s musical heritage is as rich as it is diverse, dating back to the Spanish settlers of the 16th century. Over the next 500 years, the region became a melting pot of Anglo-American folk and country music, African-American blues and jazz, Cuban and Latin music, traditional Native American music, gospel, rock, classical, pop, reggae, punk, metal, hip hop, and dance music.\u00a0This collection includes a number of subcollections:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/144\">Blues Collection<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/145\">Classical Collection<\/a> (with subcollection:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/69\">Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra Collection<\/a>),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/143\">Folk Collection<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/141\">Jazz Collection<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/142\">Rock Collection<\/a>. This collection was curated primarily by UCF graduate student Geoffrey Cravero.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/83\">Henry Shelton Sanford Papers Collection<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThis collection includes select letters, photographs, advertisements, bank checks, receipts, and business documents\u00a0from the Henry Shelton Sanford Papers, housed at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sanfordfl.gov\/index.aspx?page=456\">Sanford Museum<\/a>.\u00a0Henry Shelton Sanford (1823-1891) was an American diplomat, lawyer, and businessman. He made several real estate investments in Florida in the late 1860s and early 1870s. The most notable purchase was the\u00a0Sanford Grant, which would later serve as the location of the City of Sanford. Henry Sanford also developed several experimental citrus groves,\u00a0including St. Gertrude&#8217;s Grove and Belair Grove, which was later purchased and operated by the Chase Brothers. The Sanford Papers Collection includes several subcollections:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/132\">Belair Grove Collection<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/108\">Henry Shelton Sanford Accounts Collection<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/107\">William MacKinnon Collection<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/98\">Florida Land Colonization Company Collection<\/a>.\u00a0This collection was curated by UCF graduate student\u00a0Drew M. Fedorka.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/81\">History Harvest Collection<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThe History Harvest Collection includes photographs, oral history recordings, birth certificates, property deeds, newspaper articles, letters, report cards, and programs collected during History Harvests sponsored by RICHES of Central Florida, in partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celerysoupsanford.com\/\">Celery Soup: Florida&#8217;s Folk Life Play<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/oviedohs.com\/\">Oviedo Historical Society<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/publichistorycenter.cah.ucf.edu\/\">UCF Public History Center<\/a>. Each History Harvest has its own subcollection:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/82\">Celery Soup: Florida\u2019s Folk Life Play Collection<\/a>,\u00a0Oviedo Historical Society Collection (coming soon!), and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/51\">Seminole County Schools Collection<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/70\"><strong>RICHES Podcast Documentaries Collection<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThis collection consists of podcasts produced by UCF history professor Dr. Robert A. Cassanello.\u00a0RICHES Podcast Documentaries are short form narrative documentaries that explore Central Florida history and involve the participation or cooperation of local area partners. This collection also includes a subcollection,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/137\">A History of Central Florida Collection<\/a>, which is a follow-up\u00a0series that explores Central Florida&#8217;s history through the artifacts found in local area museums and historical societies.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/149\">Dr. Calvin Fowler Collection<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThis collection includes photographs, newspaper articles, certificates, and letters related to the space program in Brevard County. Dr. Calvin &#8220;Cal&#8221; Fowler donated these artifacts to the F<a href=\"http:\/\/virtualheritage.ist.ucf.edu\/cchp\/\">lorida Space Coast History Project<\/a>, which then shared the items with RICHES. Dr. Fowler was\u00a0the manager of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Launch Complex 14 during the final three launches of Project Mercury. The Dr. Fowler Collection is a subcollection of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/148\">Florida Space Coast History Project Collection<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/72\"><strong>Patricia Black Collection<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThe Patricia Black Collection consists of photographs, newspaper articles, payroll records, property deeds, birth certificates, invoices, and other documents donated by <a href=\"http:\/\/s2.postimg.org\/4mpxwg2u1\/P3212376.jpg\">Patricia Ann Black<\/a>. The majority of the artifacts feature Patricia, as well as her father, Pilgrim Black, who was a migrant worker in Sanford and Upstate New York.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/20\"><strong>Orlando Collection<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThe Orlando Collections features a variety of photographs and postcards donated by the <a href=\"http:\/\/library.ucf.edu\/SpecialCollections\/\">University of Central Florida Special Collections<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehistorycenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Orange County Regional History Center<\/a>, and\u00a0the Cepero family (Ray, Nancy, and Laura).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/97\"><strong>Central Florida Railroad Depots Collection<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThe Central Florida Railroad Depots Collections consists of photographs of railroad depots in Central Florida, both past and present. These photographs were gathered by UCF undergraduate students of Dr. Connie L. Lester&#8217;s\u00a0American Economic History course\u00a0in the spring of 2014.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/24\"><strong>UCF Community Veterans History Project Collection<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThis collection features select oral histories of veterans conducted by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/digital.library.ucf.edu\/cdm\/landingpage\/collection\/VET\">UCF Community Veterans History Project<\/a>. The collection also includes subcollections:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/109\">Lone Sailor Navy Memorial History Project Collection<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/92\">Vietnam War Collection<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/96\">War in Afghanistan Collection<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/95\">World War II Collection<\/a>. The\u00a0Lone Sailor Navy Memorial History Project Collection also includes a number of photographs of the Naval Training Center (NTC) Orlando. This collection was curated\u00a0by UCF graduate student\u00a0Mark Barnes, in partnership with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lonesailorfl.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lone Sailor Navy Memorial History Project<\/a>. Barnes also designed a digital exhibit, Transformation: From Civilians to Sailors (coming soon!), which\u00a0examines how the Recruit Training Center (RTC) Orlando transformed raw recruits into highly effective sailors.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/115\">Winter Garden Heritage Foundation Collection<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThis collection includes\u00a0photographs, both past and present, from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wghf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Winter Garden Heritage Foundation<\/a>. The collection also includes a subcollection, <a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/124\">Up From the Ashes Collection<\/a>, which depicts the history of Winter Garden&#8217;s business district following two devastating fires in 1909 and 1912. Photographs from these collections are featured in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/exhibits\/show\/upfromtheashes\">Up From the Ashes<\/a>, a digital exhibit designed by UCF undergraduate student\u00a0Katherine Bowers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/113\"><strong>Maitland Historical Museum Collection<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThis collection includes letters, newspaper articles, invitations, programs, bank checks, and receipts from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/artandhistory.org\/maitland-history-museum\/\">Maitland Historical Museum<\/a>&#8216;s Vanderpool Collection.\u00a0The Vanderpools were one of the original families in Maitland, with Isaac Vanderpool, the patriarch of the family, buying 160 acres of land in the 1870. Isaac Vanderpool was part of the first committee to help incorporate the Town of Lake Maitland. The Vanderpool family was also heavily involved in civic affairs which included the establishment of the Town of Eatonville by Isaac Vanderpool and Josiah Eaton. In 1887, Isaac became the Mayor of Maitland.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/104\"><strong>U.S. Census Collection<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThe U.S. Census Collection consists of spreadsheets that highlighted the Census records for various counties in Central Florida: Brevard County, Flagler County, Lake County, Marion County, Orange County, Osceola County, Seminole County, St. Lucie County, and Volusia County. The census data was compiled by UCF graduate student Ella Gibson.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/99\"><strong>Lou Frey Institute of Politics &amp; Government Collection<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThis collection consists of newsletters, legislation, newspaper articles, letters, and other government documents from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/loufreyinstitute.org\/\">Lou Frey Institute of Politics &amp; Government<\/a>.\u00a0Congressman Lou Frey, Jr. (1934- ) served in the House of Representatives from 1969 to 1979. He was on several committees during his time in office, including the Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control and the Science and Technology Committee. He was also the chairman of the Young Republicans of Florida.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/74\">Carol E. Mundy Collection<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThe Carol E. Mundy Collection, housed at the <a href=\"http:\/\/library.ucf.edu\/SpecialCollections\/\">University of Central Florida Special Collections<\/a>, consists of hundreds of 19th- and 20th-century African-American memorabilia from the Apopka. This\u00a0digital collection provides a snapshot into life within the African-American business community and also challenges our preconceived notions of how African-American communities lived in this time period. The Carol E. Mundy Collection includes property deeds, letters, and business documents, which are also featured in <a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/exhibits\/show\/apopka\">Vibrant African-American Community in the 1920s and 1930s<\/a>, a digital exhibit designed by RICHES director and UCF history professor Dr. Connie L. Lester, RICHES programmer Connie Harper, and UCF graduate student Drew M. Fedorka.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/collections\/show\/77\"><strong>Central Florida Monuments Collection<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThis collection includes photographs of monuments and memorials in Central Florida, both past and present, as well as various newspaper articles and government documents. The Central Florida Monuments Collection was a project facilitated by UCF history professor Dr. Anne Lindsay for her undergraduate course, Public History: Principles and Techniques, in the fall of 2013. Dr. Lindsay&#8217;s class also designed a digital exhibit titled <a href=\"https:\/\/richesmi.cah.ucf.edu\/omeka2\/exhibits\/show\/cflmonuments\">Hidden in Plain Sight: A Selection of Central Florida Monuments<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>RICHES also has a number of smaller collections.
